SCC Audio Video AV Support Module enables automated transcoding of a wide range of audio and video formats prior to insertion into an SCC MediaServer system or during export to downstream content management/production systems.

The module incorporates three transcoding platforms: FFMPEG the industry standard open-source transcoding engine; Microsoft's Expression Encoder engine; Amazon (AWS) cloud-based Elastic Transcoder Service, which together provide extensive support for incoming audio/video formats.

The module automatically transforms incoming audio/video files into rich media packages consisting of high definition previews, keyframes, one or more streaming proxies of varying sizes and resolution, together with the original high-definition audio/video file. Preview images are based on a choice of first frame, best frame, or a selection of frame mosaic patterns, for example 2x2, 3x3, 5x5.

The module provides a full-featured media player application, which makes use of instant-on audio/video streaming technology to provide immediate playback from any selected point in an audio/video file. SCC's media player provides simple point and click navigation from any word within the extracted speech text, and by clicking in the keyframes strip which appears beneath the main video/audio preview window.

When the SCC Budget Assignment module is enabled on the system, the inserted audio or video package is automatically linked to the relevant parent budget and assignment record at which point metadata from the parent record is automatically applied to the audio/video package allowing it to be easily searched and located.

Audio/Video Trimming

SCC Audio Video Trimming Tool

The SCC Audio Video AV Support Module also provides a sophisticated AV trimming facility, allowing users with appropriate permissions, to add one or more trim sets to any SCC MediaServer AV record. Each trim set allows one or more trim point pairs to be inserted and positioned anywhere along the audio/video timeline.

Trim points can be easily dragged left or right or relocated into exact position using keyboard navigation keys. Clicking any of the words in the extracted speech text panel is also a useful way to position trim points precisely between spoken words. Double clicking trim points locks them into place and stores the relative time code values into the SCC MediaServer database record.

Trim sets can be stored privately to the user, or shared to other users within the same role, or shared to all users. A preview function allows the user to see a representational view of the trimmed audio/video file prior to encoding.

Users have the ability to encode each completed trim set into a new trimmed video proxy complete with time synchronized closed captions in any language. The encoded proxy can be either added as an additional proxy to the database record or exported to an external output directory. Trimmed proxy and trimmed closed caption timelines conform exactly to the trim points defined within the encoded trim set.

The playlist panel within the SCC media players also allows the original audio/video file, and any trimmed proxies, each with their respective closed captions to be selected for display or for delivery to an external output directory. Users also have the ability to copy a link, with optional expiry dates, to any proxy for playout within an upstream CMS system.

Brightcove Interface

The SCC Audio/Video AV Support Module includes a bi-directional SCC Brightcove interface allowing selected audio/video records already contained within an SCC MediaServer system to be transferred together related text transcript and closed caption data into a customer Brightcove portal, and also supporting automated archival of audio/video files originating from a customers Brightcove portal.

SCC's Brightcove interface supports the bi-directional transfer and retrieval of all metadata entered into an SCC MediaServer audio/video record, or entered within into Brightcove portal allowing easy search and retrieval of each audio/video file within the SCC MediaServer system. The Brightcove interface also supports automatic linking and the inheritance of metadata from parent budget and assignment records into each inserted audio/video file (requires SCC Budget Assignment module).
