McClatchy Newspapers installs SCC ObjectML module for latest generation CCI system

March 31, 2010

ALPHARETTA, GA., March 31, 2010 -- SCC is pleased to announce the installation of the SCC MediaServer ObjectML module at the McClatchy Newspapers Southeast Data Center.

The Data Center is located in Charlotte N.C., and provides a "cloud computing infrastructure" -- incorporating shared CCI NewsGate editorial and SCC MediaServer archive systems, and offering centralized data management and technical support services -- for the following McClatchy Carolinas properties:

The Charlotte Observer, Charlotte N.C. (circ. 176k [m-sat], 231k [sun])
The News & Observer, Raleigh N.C. (circ. 144k [m-sat], 195k [sun])
The Herald, Rock Hill S.C. (circ. 25k [m-sat], 28k [sun])
The Sun News, Myrtle Beach S.C. (circ. 43k [m-sat], 55k [sun])
The State, Columbia S.C. (circ. 88k [m-sat], 112k [sun]).
The SCC MediaServer ObjectML module provides tight integration with CCI's latest generation editorial systems equipped with the ObjectML export engine and provides a user friendly and highly configurable interface to the otherwise complex export data.

Once configured the SCC module performs all necessary data extraction and conversion, record insertion, auto-enhancement, and record linking automatically and completely in order to produce an enriched archive of publication elements generated within the CCI editorial system.

According to Neil Mara, Regional News Systems Manager for the McClatchy Southeast Information Technology Group:
"Making the switch to SCC's ObjectML integration with CCI has been a great success for us. It's clean. It's fast. And there's a nice "wow" factor for newsroom staff when they search for a story and see links to the photo, graphic and page that went with it. That's been a big hit."

During the installation, SCC also transferred a collective total of 45 years of text archives (approximately 3 million records) out of a legacy SAVE text archiving system into the Carolinas SCC MediaServer system -- this is in addition to the 5 million photos and graphics, and 400,000 PDF pages already stored within the SCC system.

When asked about the success of the installation, Neil Mara had this to say:
"As usual with SCC, they are terrific to work with. They're very responsive and get things done on time. They're one of the very best vendors we work with."
